COVER ME

ITS BEEN A WHILE SINCE MY LAST POST, MAYBE A BIT TOO LONG YEA ?
I LIKE COVERS, YOU KNOW WHEN ANOTHER BAND OR ARTIST REDOES ANOTHER ARTISTS SONG.
HOWEVER, I FEEL COVERS SHOULD ALWAYS HAVE A TWIST, A DIFFERENT ARRANGEMENT, TEMPO, SOUNDS, ETC.

ALOT OF PEOPLE ARE RAVING ABOUT MAYER HAWTHORNE.
I MET HIM BRIEFLY WHILE IN L.A., SEEMS LIKE A COOL GUY, HAS GREAT TASTE IN MUSIC AND I LOVED HIS 1ST RECORD "AINT GONNA WORK OUT".
I DONT LIKE HIS COVER OF THE ALREADY PERFECT NEW HOLIDAYS "MAYBE SO MAYBE NO".
ITS LIKE THE SAME EXACT SONG.
NOTHINGS REALLY DIFFERENT EXCEPT FOR THE SINGING. IN WHICH CASE THE ORIGINAL IS BETTER.
IM NOT KNOCKING MAYER FOR HIS WORK OR HUSTLE, HE PLAYS ALL OF THE INSTRUMENTS HIMSELF I THINK, AND ITS GREAT THAT YOUNG PEOPLE WHO WERE NOT EXPOSED TO THE NEW HOLIDAYS RECORD ARE VIBING OFF OF MAYERS VERSION, BUT IT'D BE NICE IF HE COULD SOMEHOW LET PEOPLE KNOW ABOUT THE ORIGINAL...ESPECIALLY SINCE MAYERS VERSION SOUNDS THE WAY IT DOES.
WHY WOULD A PERSON LIKE MYSELF, WHOS KNOWN ABOUT THIS SONG, EVER WANT TO PLAY MAYERS VERSION INSTEAD OF THE NEW HOLIDAYS ?
IM SURE EVEN MAYER PLAYS THE NEW HOLIDAYS VERSION.
EVERYBODY THAT ASKS ME TO PLAY THE MAYER SONG, I TELL THEM THEY NEED TO HEAR THE OG.
SO HERES THE OG...ENJOY

Sendspace.com: maybe so maybe no this one.mp3 / new holidays

OH YEA, WHILE IM ON THIS TIP.... HOW ABOUT LEE FIELDS !?
I WAS READY TO GO OUT AND BUY THIS GUYS RECORD UNTIL I STUMBLED ACROSS A COPY IN A PILE OF CDS, I HAD NO IDEA I EVEN OWNED A PROMO COPY OF HIS LATEST LP " MY WORLD".
THIS LP IS INCREDIBLE, THE CONVICTION IN HIS VOICE IS THE ESSENCE OF A SOUL SINGER...AT LEAST IN MY BOOK.
WHY ARENT MORE PEOPLE UP ON THIS LEE FIELDS.. GOOD QUESTION. LOOK FOR THIS MANS MUSIC, KILLER STUFF.

Thanks for droppin knowledge and the mp3! I had no idea this was a cover. The vocals on the OG are better for sure and I need to find this 45. Mayer does have session players on guitar, piano, and trumpet for his cover and he does acknowledge that it was written by R.Wylie and T. Hester on the back of his album.

Hope your health is improving and you are feeling better! Peace

Yo man, good to see you posting again. Hope you are feeling better.

You are the one that introduced me to the New Holidays! I feel you on the Mayer Hawthorne version. I just try to focus on it giving New Holidays some well deserved attention.

As for Lee Fields...hell yes man, I've been following Soul Brother #2 since the Desco Records days. Did you know he has huge house records out in Europe? Check it: Jealousy

The man can do it all....

And again, now that i have signed up on this thing just to mention on that marvin clip, i have to say your taste coincides closely with mine.. I been waiting for that Lee Fields record to come out ever since the title track 7 dropped a year & half prior.. One of the best vocals, arrangements & recordings of the past 10 years. pure class of soul... no one i know comes close in 2009.

Very true. Lee Fields really caught my attention with his truly soulful vocals and I agree with the New Holidays comparison.

Best.
